We are looking for an experienced journalist with a minimum of three to five years of financial reporting experience, who can work in our Hong Kong office across two of our flagship publications: FX Markets and Central Banking.
FX Markets is the leading source of insider news and analysis on the fast-changing business of foreign exchange. Central Banking is a leading publication covering public policy and financial markets, with an emphasis on central banks, sovereign funds, international financial institutions and financial market infrastructure.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, capable of teasing out those stories that other journalists are not adequately covering. This exciting role comes with plenty of scope for investigative reporting and for shaping coverage in line with editorial standards.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct research to uncover significant, interesting and exclusive news Cultivate contacts to generate a constant stream of news tips and leads Regularly interview key senior professionals from industry Contribute news, feature articles and comment pieces to FX Markets and Central Banking, for publication both online and within the magazines Work with editors in London and the bureau chief in Hong Kong to maintain a high quality of research and reporting Communicate and share information from conversations with other teams, to help develop coverage across the platform Maintain a high standard of journalistic ethics, with a keen focus on use of sources and accuracy of stories Cover conferences where necessary both in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia Occasional travel to other countries will be required, in order to keep abreast of developments across the APAC region
Requirements
Proven work experience as a financial journalist (minimum of 5-10 years)Excellent communication and networking skills along with an aptitude in extracting informationA high level of written and spoken EnglishA good level of financial knowledge in general and risk management / regulation in particularHigh levels of enthusiasm for the job and clear excitement in covering cover those stories that other journalists are missing Willingness to learn and develop in line with in-house editorial standardsStrong moral and ethical journalistic standards, and awareness of the law within which journalists operateProven ability to work together as a team and to share interesting leads and information with fellow journalistsA good contact book within the Asian financial sector or the ability to quickly develop oneCapability of explaining complex ideas in elegant proseProven experience in developing off-diary investigative stories is preferable to experience covering press briefings and conferencesAny experience with data journalism is a plusAsian languages, especially Mandarin, are strongly desirable, though not essentialBenefits
