Job Description

Central Banking is looking for a staff reporter to be based out of its Hong Kong bureau, covering central bank issues across the APAC region.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, able to working independently to cover the most important issues across the region and to develop a network of excellent contacts within the central banking community.

Whether you're writing about the internationalisation of the renminbi, the growing dangers of cyber crime or new monetary policy initiatives, this is a role full of exciting opportunities.

This role would suit a recent graduate, or some that has had a few years experience as a journalist and would like to move on to new challenges. Mandarin skills are a strong advantage.

Central Banking, a leading publication covering public policy and financial markets, with an emphasis on central banks, sovereign funds, international financial institutions and financial market infrastructure.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research to uncover significant, interesting and exclusive news
  • Cultivate contacts to generate a constant stream of news tips and leads
  • Regularly interview key senior people from the central banking community
  • Contribute news, feature articles and comment pieces for publication both online and within the magazines
  • Work with editors in London and the bureau chief in Hong Kong to maintain a high quality of research and reporting
  • Communicate and share information from conversations with other teams, to help develop coverage across the platform
  • Maintain a high standard of journalistic ethics, with a keen focus on use of sources and accuracy of stories
  • Cover conferences where necessary both in Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia
  • Requirements

  • Excellent communication and networking skills along with an aptitude in extracting information
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • High levels of enthusiasm for the job and clear excitement in covering central banks
  • Willingness to learn and develop in line with in-house editorial standards
  • Strong moral and ethical journalistic standards, and awareness of the law within which journalists operate
  • Proven ability to work together as a team and to share interesting leads and information with fellow journalists
  • A good contact book or the ability to quickly develop one
  • Mandarin is strongly desirable
