Bioinformatics Scientist
Prenetics, Hong Kong

• Support the production operation of NGS and long-read sequencing-based products.
• Operate and maintain the NGS data analysis and query systems. Develop and test the relevant bioinformatics pipelines as needed.
• Work with genomic scientists, clinical scientists and software engineers to develop novel bioinformatics solutions. Following the best practice of software engineering in developing well-documented modules that fit in the internal pipelines. Experience in using github style versioning systems,
• Work with the engineering team to deploy and manage bioinformatics workflows.
• Provide Bioinformatics support to existing products by working closely with the lab and product teams.

Requirements

• Required: PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, information systems or related field with significant hands-on experience working in the industry is preferred. Selected Master’s level candidates with strong proven track-record will also be considered.
• Required: 2+ years of experience with a variety of NGS bioinformatics tools - GATK, bwa etc. Strong experience in analyzing and interpreting NGS data for clinical samples.
• Required: Deep understanding of sequencing data analysis algorithms and tools.
• Required: Strong programming skills and experience using computer language and platforms (R, Python, Github, workflow language, SQL, Java, etc) to analyze NGS data and develop tools.
• Preferred: Experience on developing sequencing data analysis algorithms and tools.
• Preferred: Hands-on experience with big data relational or NoSQL databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, HBase).
• Preferred: A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
• Preferred: Eagerness in taking ownership of day-to-day production and support operations.
• Preferred: Strong team work spirit, strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure success in working with a multidisciplinary team at a large company.
